City Administrator Dean Brookshier received high marks from members of the city council in a two-hour executive session Tuesday evening in which the mayor and members of the council concluded their one-year performance appraisal. Administrator Brookshier went over a letter presented to council members earlier in which he presented projects that he addressed in the past year and to outline his future goals. Council members asked questions and made comments to Brookshier during the evaluation session.
Mayor Chuck Haney led discussion about Brookshier and council members presented written appraisals, Haney released. The council voted 4-1 to offer Brookshier an increase in salary of $3,500 for the next year. The “No” vote was by Third Ward Councilwoman Donna Preszler. Voting for the $3,500 increase were Councilman-at-Large Darrel Rinehart, First Ward Councilman Earle Teegarden, Second Ward Councilman Maurice Zion, and Fourth Ward Councilperson Pam Jarding. In a statement issued, Preszler said her vote was the fact “I believe Dean Brookshier has demonstrated above and beyond the duties of a city administrator and was deserving of more increase than suggested by the council. I believe Dean has taken the responsibility of the position and with a committed effort to progress the city of Chillicothe and employees of this city.”
Brookshier was employed on unanimous approval by the current city council at a beginning salary of $85,000 plus other benefits on December 11, 2007. His one-year review was delayed a month because of the holidays.
