CITY COUNCIL MEETING 05/12/14 (Hotel Proposal, Police Radar, FEC Easement, Fire Training Center Agreement)

Chillicothe City Council members approved the next step in a request for a new hotel to locate in Chillicothe. [See council meeting April 14, 2014.]

Following a public hearing during the council's regular meeting Monday evening, city officials unanimously passed an ordinance approving a plan for an industrial development project for Ehrhardts' Macon LLC consisting of the construction and equipping of a hotel and related parking an infrastructure. Ehrhardts currently owns the local Comfort Inn and plans to construct a 70-room hotel between Lowe's and Comfort Inn on four acres within teh TIF district in southeast Chillicothe. The Ehrhardts plan to employ between 18 and 20 full time employees at the new hotel. While declining to identify the brand of hotel, it is planned that the facility will have an indoor pool, exercise room, and breakfast area.

In other business Monday, the council approved a bid for the purchase and installation of four Motorola APX7500 VHF Consolette radios to be interfaced with dispatch consoles on MOSWIN for the CPD. The approved bid in the amount of $29,722.7 was submitted by Midwest Mobile Radio Services, Inc.

Mayor Chuck Haney presided over Monday night's meeting with the full council in attendance. Also Monday, the council:

  • Heard a report from Police Lt. Scott Chubick to apply for grants to pay for overtime and radar units for traffic safety projects that would target moving violations (with a focus on Hwys 36 and 65) and occupant protection (such as seat belt usage and child restraints).
  • Passed an ordinance authorizing a grant of easement to FEC that gives them the ability to put in electric lines across the former railroad route.
  • Passed an ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement for services between the city and Terracon Consultants to conduct geotechnical engineering services for the new fire training center.
