City Approves Resolution of Support for Senior Housing Development

A discussion and resolution regarding senior housing development occurred at the Chillicothe City Council meeting on Monday night. The housing to be developed will be called
"Villas of Green Hills" and will be developed by the same man who helped develop Timber Villas in 2002, Kim Lingle, president of MBL Development Co. The new housing would be located right off of Washington Street in an empty lot by Timber
Villas across the street from Hedrick Medical Center and next to north
Casey's. It is planned to be a two-story, 40-unit development Lingle did not ask for any sort of financial help from the city; he asked for a resolution of support for the project. Lingle said MBL Development Co. will be competing with other developers across the state for funding from the Missouri Housing Development Commission for the project and that a resolution of support would help his odds. Lingle said, and the council agreed, that senior housing is important in Chillicothe. He said Timber Villas has a long waiting list for seniors (about 18 to 24) and those are just the ones who sign up to be on the list. Lingle said they have several calls
and don't put their name down because of how long the list is. This development would be for persons 62 years of age or older and for those with low to moderate income. The rent would be set around $440 to $490 per
month. Lingle said there would be two elevators incorporated into the development, and the building would be energy efficient as
Lingle is a Certified Green Builder. He said the average utility bill is $68 per month in a 900 square-foot apartment.
The development would set back from Washington Street about 50 feet. The council approved the resolution with a 4-0 vote. Councilman Paul Howard was absent.
