Chillicothe Municipal Utilities General Manager Jim Gillilan recently won the Missouri Public Utility
Alliance's (MPUA), Dan A. Watkins - Gary L. Whorton Personal Service Award.
The award, presented by MPUA, recognizes an individual with a utility in the Alliance who has actively participated for at least five
years and whose special public or community service has been a credit to public utilities.
"Jim Gillilan is highly deserving of this
year's MPUA award for community service," said Duncan Kincheloe, president and general manager of
MPUA. "For more than four decades, Jim's range of experience, wealth of knowledge and long dedication to the community have been
instrumental in making CMU the tremendous asset it is to the people of

Gillilan has been general manager of Chillicothe Municipal Utilities (CMU) since 2010 and has worked for 41 years at CMU. He began his utility career as a meter reader when he was 18 years old, and before becoming CMU General Manager he worked his way through the positions of meter foreman, assistant office manager, office manager and assistant general manager.
His public and community service work includes involvement on
Chillicothe's Economic Development Committee, Rotary Club, and the Elks. He has coached youth soccer, basketball, and baseball and supports many causes and projects in Chillicothe.
In leadership roles for MPUA, Gillilan served for six years as an executive committee officer on the board of the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC) including a year as MJMEUC chair in 2016. He served previously on the MJMEUC executive committee as a member at large, secretary/
treasurer, and vice-chair of the board.
During the Sept. 30 Chillicothe City Council meeting, Mayor Theresa Kelly told the council of
Gillilan's award. "Everyone at CMU is a team. This award is for that team and all the work each and every person puts
in," Gillilan said.
