Grand 6 Theatre Adds 3-D Screen
Published: Wednesday, March 25, 2009, C-T

B&B Theatres is pleased to announce that the Chillicothe Grand 6 will be able to play movies in the 3-D digital format. Beginning with “Monsters vs. Aliens 3D” movie-goers in the Chillicothe area will be able to see movies presented in this groundbreaking format. While “Monsters vs. Aliens” is the first movie in Chillicothe to be played in a 3-D format, there are others to look forward to in the next six months including: “Battle for Terra,” “Up, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” “Final Destination 4,” and the “Re-release of Toy Story in 3D.” There are another handful of movies announced to be released in 3-D in the second half of 2009.

How It Works
While 3-D movies date back to the 1950s, the modern technology is nothing less than state-of-the-art. A new Christie digital projector has been installed with a REAL-D processor to convert the images to 3-D. According to Robert Bagby, president of B&B Theatres, Chillicothe is one of seven theatres that were chosen to receive a Digital Projector in the first quarter of 2009. “We are very excited to team with Christie and REAL-D to bring this experience to Chillicothe. The technology enhances the movie-going experience, and we knew Chillicothe was the perfect place to put it in.”

Benefits of Digital
A digital projector allows the theatre to show 3-D movies and also allows the theatre to project events other than just movies. Recently, digitally equipped theatres have shown live sporting events, concerts, and even operas. Digital projectors also allow local businesses to hold company meetings at the theatre and show laptop presentations on Chillicothe’s big screen. Connecting a gaming device (such as an X-BOX®) to the projector transforms the auditorium into a gamers’ paradise with a large screen image and digital surround sound. The possibilities are endless.
