Holiday Parade

The holiday season officially began November 23, 2019, with the 73rd Annual Chillicothe Chamber Holiday Parade that featured more than 70 entries and lasted for an hour and 15 minutes. "The Holiday Parade is a treasured community event that kicks off the local Christmas season. The Chamber is happy to be part of such a wonderful tradition." Crystal Narr, executive director of the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce, stated, "We are grateful for all of the organizations, businesses and families that took the time to enter the parade and we look forward to our 74th annual holiday parade to be hosted on November 21, 2020." The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the 73rd Annual Holiday Parade in Chillicothe, MO - "The Magic of Christmas" - Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. Our 2019 Sponsors: Hedrick Medical Center and Hy-Vee. Our traditional parade route was followed: From Polk Steet, South on Washington Street, East on Third St and North on Locust Street. Entries were accepted free of charge until November 8, 2019. Entries November 9, 2019, up to parade date were charged $25.

Joy Toys Project was named Grand Marshal of 73rd Annual Chillicothe Holiday Parade. "When you think of the magic of Christmas, the joy of seeing children's faces light up when receiving gifts is at the top of the list. Joy Toys, which is a project of 55 & Go, has been keeping that magic alive for area families for many years. We are so happy to be honoring them this year," Ronni Clark, Parade Committee member said. "An exciting extra component of this year's parade is that we are encouraging all parade attendees to bring a toy, new or gently loved, to drop off for Joy Toys on parade day. Toys can be dropped off to the Chamber at 514 Washington St. or Joy Toys at 440 Locust St., from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Nov. 23."

The parade included floats and entries from many different organizations, youth groups, churches, businesses and individuals throughout Chillicothe. Many bands or musical groups from around the area were also involved as a part of the parade, including the Chillicothe High School Marching Hornets and the Chillicothe Middle School 7th-grade and 8th-grade bands. Sluggerrr, official mascot of the Kansas City Royals, was again a part of the parade. KC Wolf, official mascot of the Kansas City Chiefs also made a return visit to the Holiday Parade. Parade judging took place during the parade, with the announcement of the winners following on Saturday afternoon. Entries were judged in the following categories: Business entries, Non-Profit Group or Organization entries and Youth Organization entries. The parade entry deadline was Friday, November 8. Letters detailing parade number and lot location were mailed prior to the parade to those entered. Entry forms each year will be available prior to the parade at www.chillicothemo.com. Memorial Tree 2019

Main Street Chillicothe will be hosting the Memorial Tree lighting and dedication on Nov. 21 in Silver Moon Plaza. Ornaments for the tree are now available to be purchased at the Main Street Chillicothe office for $10 each or three for $25. When the ornament is purchased, the person's name being memorialized will be put inside the ornament, and these ornaments will be placed on the Memory Tree and remain through the holidays and can be picked up the week of Jan. 10, 2020. Purchase may be done by calling the office, 660-646-4071, or by coming to the Main Street office, 2nd floor of Chamber building, 514 Washington St. Ornaments can also be purchased on the group's website at www.downtownchilli.com. The dedication service provides an opportunity to remember passed loved ones and honor their legacy. Music will be provided by the First Baptist Church Youth Choir of Chillicothe. Pastor Alan Brock will give a special message. After the message, each name will then be read, and a bell will chime after the reading of each person being memorialized.
