Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites (Stoney Brooke)

Council Meeting Excerpt March 13, 2017 - By Catherine Stortz Ripley, C-T 03/24/17 - The city of Chillicothe finalized the tax abatement plan for the new $5.8 million Fairfield Inn & Suites in south Chillicothe. Through utilizing Chapter 100 bonds, the city will give Ehrhardts' Macon LLC a 100 percent real estate tax abatement for the first 10 years and a 50 percent real estate tax abatement for 10 more years, according to Robert Cowherd, Chillicothe city attorney. The tax abatement is for real estate taxes only; the city will collect personal property taxes and sales taxes. This tax abatement is similar to that for Comfort Inn & Suites, which is Ehrhardts' Macon LLC's first hotel in Chillicothe. Chillicothe City Council members during their regular meeting last week unanimously approved an ordinance establishing the mechanism to provide the tax abatement by authorizing the issuance of $5,835,000 taxable industrial revenue bonds for the hotel. July 21, 2016 - Significant progress is being made this week on the new hotel, Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites, near the junction of U.S. Highways 36 and 65. The construction crew working on the new hotel, Thomas Construction, is finishing the framing and roofing this week, according to Herrold Ray, construction manager. Ray said all the mechanical work (including plumbers and electricians) are beginning to work on the inside, and the first week of August, brick installation and stucco work will begin on the exterior. Ray said the parking lot paving began on Monday. Thomas Construction has been having to work in the extreme heat lately which, Ray said, slows them down a bit. Ray said the heat has definitely been an issue. "Your body will only allow you to get away with so much," he said. Crews have started to come in a lot earlier (3, 4, or 5 a.m.) and leave earlier in the day in order to beat the heat. Ray said sometimes workers will come in early in the morning, leave in the afternoon and return in the evening when it's cooler.
