Friday was Ruth Ann Hutcherson's last day working at My Skating Rink in Chillicothe. She announced earlier this week that she sold the business to Darren and Angie Lauhoff of Chillicothe (also owners of Lauhoff Jewelry located across the street from the rink). Ruth Ann and her husband, the late Floyd Hutcherson, owned and operated the rink for 26 years, starting on February 2, 1990. Floyd and Ruth Ann were at the rink every weekend during the skate season and for private parties. Ruth Ann greeted skaters as they entered and sold concessions, and one could usually find Floyd behind the counter handing out skates. Floyd passed away on January 6 of this year at the age of 75. When Floyd became ill and was hospitalized, the rink closed. When he passed away, many were concerned about the future of the rink. However, Ruth Ann decided to reopened the rink on January 29, calming many people's worries that it would close permanently.

Ruth Ann's last official day at the rink was Friday, and on Monday she and Darren Lauhoff made the announcement that the business will be switching hands. "We have purchased the skating rink," Darren Lauhoff confirmed on Monday. "We look forward to carrying on the tradition that Floyd and Ruth Ann started 26 years ago. We will continue to provide a safe, clean place for kids to have fun." Ruth Ann said she is happy that the building will continue as a skating rink and that the business will continue to be operated by a family. Ruth Ann said she would like to thank all the families that enjoyed My Skating Rink for the past 26 years.

The Lauhoff family consists of Darren and Angie Lauhoff and their two children: Jared, 19, and Olivia, 17. The Lauhoff family has decided to rename the skating rink, "Queen Liv's Skate O Rama," after their daughter, Olivia.

The rink is open now through Memorial Day weekend on Friday and Saturday nights from 7 until 10 p.m. The rink will then close, as usual, for the summer months and reopen sometime after Labor Day. There will be a grand opening for the new Skate O Rama rink this fall when it reopens for skate season. A retirement celebration will be Friday for Ruth Ann in the parking lot of the rink from 6 until 7 p.m. The public is invited to come by and wish Ruth Ann well on her retirement.
