C-T 06 13 17

The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Livingston County took place Friday evening in Simpson Park and raised $16,175.24 for cancer research. The event was held from 5 until 11 p.m. There were eight local Relay for Life teams and one from Carrollton that participated in the event and helped raise money.

The event began with the survivor lap which had about 45 participants. The participants introduced themselves individually and briefly told about their battle with cancer before walking a lap around the center of the park. The caregiver lap followed and involved approximately 200 people.

There was a live DJ, lots of food and games throughout the evening. Event coordinator Kati Westcott said a highlight of the evening was a donation made for the Chillicothe firefighters to dance. Firefighter Zach Parks led everyone in the Cha Cha Slide. The lighting of the luminaries took place at 9 p.m. During the lighting ceremony, names in memory of and in honor of those affected by cancer were read aloud. There were approximately 150 luminaria.

Teams participating in fundraising were Jeff's Deere, Midwest Quality Gloves, Hedrick Medical Center, Twila and Hailey's Super Heroes, Soap for Hope, The BookSmith, Relay Vendors, and Team Lowe's 2459. The Carroll County Team was TLC. Top individual fundraisers were Kati Westcott ($2,247), Wanda Wilson ($1,655), Jeffrey Westcott ($656), Stephanie Bugbee (525), and Michael Hollon ($250).
