Constitution-Tribune,
Thursday, October 29, 2009
Chillicothe City Treasurer Sherry Parks has been preparing approximately 7,650 tax notices which will be mailed
Friday.
The tax notices total $762,575. Of that number, $204,156 is personal property and $558,419 is real estate, Parks said. She added that the tax charge is up approximately 2.1 percent from 2008.
Taxes can be paid in the city treasurer’s office beginning Monday, Nov. 2, through Dec. 31, 2009 without a penalty. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Parks says taxes paid after Dec. 31, 2009, will be assessed a 2 percent penalty per month.
Personal property tax bills are yellow and real estate tax bills are pink. Anyone who owned personal property on Jan. 1, 2009 and did not receive a tax bill is urged to contact the Livingston County Assessor at 646-8000 to become assessed to avoid further penalties.
Parks says that individuals who own real estate and do not escrow through their mortgage company should receive their real estate tax bill; if they do escrow, they should not receive their tax bill. Those with questions regarding their taxes should contact the city treasurer at 660 646 2285.
